Polynucleotide – everything you need to know

What is polynucleotide?

It’s salmon DNA. A polynucleotide is a polymer made up of nucleotide monomers linked together through phosphodiester bonds. Nucleotides are the building blocks of nucleic acids, such as DNA and RNA. In a polynucleotide chain, the nucleotides are arranged in a specific sequence, which encodes genetic information in the case of DNA or serves as a template for protein synthesis in the case of RNA.

After being extracted they are then integrated into a polymerized injectable gel that can be delivered to the patient via needle or cannula. Polynucleotides are fully absorbed by the body and have a half-life of about 3 hours.

How do they improve skin?

Polynucleotides trigger fibroblast and collagen activity, so polynucleotides lead to the regeneration of fibroblasts and the stimulation of more collagen, which helps reverse the signs of aging.

Is there scientific support for this?

Yes, similar to many other regenerative products, polynucleotides have a background of use in general medicine prior to their application in aesthetics. Research has documented their effective utilization for conditions like knee osteoarthritis and chronic wounds, including venous ulcers, among others.

In a clinical trial involving 15 participants treated with polynucleotides, it was observed that hydration levels increased by 115% and elasticity improved by 38% after 20 weeks. Additionally, a study on mice showed a more than 50% increase in epidermal thickness and a 47% boost in collagen production. Based on the author’s experience, the effects of the treatment typically last between 6 and 9 months.

What are the potential side effects?

Potential side effects may include temporary redness, bruising and swelling, which is totally normal with any injectable treatment. Little bumps may appear but typically resolve within a few days, this can be swelling or little deposits of the product which will absorb into the skin.

What is the different between polynucleotide and skin boosters?

Polynucleotide (PN) and skin boosters are both popular treatments used in aesthetic medicine to improve skin quality and appearance. However, they differ in terms of their composition and mechanism of action.

Polynucleotide (PN):

1. Composition: Polynucleotide is a type of nucleic acid derived from DNA or RNA fragments. It contains multiple nucleotide units linked together.
2. Mechanism of action: Polynucleotide works by stimulating cellular regeneration, collagen synthesis, and tissue repair. It helps improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall texture.
3. Benefits: PN treatments can result in improved skin quality, increased hydration levels, enhanced elasticity, and a more youthful appearance.
4. Duration: The effects of polynucleotide treatments typically last between 6 and 9 months.

Skin Boosters:

1. Composition: Skin boosters are typically hyaluronic acid-based products that are injected into the skin to hydrate and improve skin quality.
2. Mechanism of action: Skin boosters work by attracting and retaining water molecules in the skin, providing deep hydration and improving skin elasticity.
3. Benefits: Skin boosters can help improve skin hydration, smoothness, and radiance. They are often used to address fine lines, wrinkles, and dull skin.
4. Duration: The effects of skin booster treatments vary but generally last 2-5 months before requiring maintenance sessions depending on the product used

In summary, while both polynucleotide and skin boosters aim to enhance skin quality, they differ in their composition and specific mechanisms of action. Polynucleotide treatments focus on cellular regeneration and collagen synthesis, while skin boosters primarily provide deep hydration and skin rejuvenation through the use of hyaluronic acid. The choice between these treatments may depend on individual skin concerns and desired outcomes.
